Acoustic Neuroma Surgery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center
Dr. Andrew Fishman was invited to perform surgical removal of an acoustic neuroma. He performed the surgery with Navy surgeons, Commander Arnold Rivera M.D., and Dr. Merrill Severson M.D. The surgery was successfully performed by the middle fossa approach with good preservation of hearing waves monitored during the removal. Walter Reed Facial Nerve Surgery Lecture
Dr. Fishman was invited to lecture the Otolaryngology Residents of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on surgery of the facial nerve. During this visit, Dr. Fishman directed a temporal bone dissection laboratory for training the residents in techniques used in acoustic neuroma surgery.

Emerging Technologies in Cochlear Implants
Drs. Andrew J. Fishman MD, and Claus Peter Richter MD PhD from Northwestern University detailed their experience in the field of cochlear implant research. Topics discussed were the use of lasers as both stimulating sources as well as surgical tools. The new Hybrid Cochlear Implant from Cochlear Corporation was also introduced. Dr. Andrew J. Fishman is the lead investigator for the Northwestern University research site. The study is an ongoing multicenter trial nationwide.

Facial Neuroma
The following video demonstrates the resection and interposition grafting for a facial neuroma patient. The patient presented with a near complete facial nerve paralysis with normal hearing. The middle cranial fossa approach was utilized to preserve the hearing and balance function.
